Saint John Storm historic run in Maritime women’s football

The Saint John Storm rewrote the playbook this season with a record-breaking run.

The full-tackle women’s team in the Maritime Women’s Football League went 8-0, scored 382 points and notched its 100th franchise victory, all without allowing a single point.

“It’s the greatest feeling to share this with all of them,” said veteran player and team administrator Jen Brown Oliver.

“Our teammates on the Storm are like no other, and we’ll never forget this for sure.”

Despite breaking her femur in 2022, Brown Oliver said she pushed through rehab with support from her teammates and coaches every step of the way.

She’s now in her 13th season, but wanted to give a shout-out to the Storm’s volunteer coaching staff:

  • Lisa Harlow-Gallant, general manager & special-teams coordinator
  • Chris Gallant, head coach & offensive coordinator
  • Danny Oliver, defensive coordinator
  • Larry Harlow, offensive assistant
  • Jacob Hanscom, offensive assistant
  • Jared Laming, offensive assistant

Brown Oliver said the staff has helped build the structure and unity that carried the team through every game.

“Next year is going to be tough because now we have a lot of pressure on us,” she added.

“Every rival will be gunning for that first touchdown against us.”

With a core of long-time veterans and a wave of newcomers, the Storm are already planning off-season workouts and recruitment drives.

They hope this historic campaign will boost interest in women’s tackle football across New Brunswick and the Maritimes.
