Forest fire ban for all of N.B.

New Brunswick is under a province-wide burn ban heading into the weekend.

The Department of Natural Resources issued the ban on Friday afternoon.

Officials said no burning will be permitted until at least 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Many communities have their own restrictions, so check with your local municipal office.

The fire danger was listed as high or very high across much of the province as of early Friday afternoon.

However, wet weather on the weekend is expected to lower the fire danger over the next day or so.

New Brunswick is dealing with a below-normal forest fire season so far this year.

A total of 149 fires have burned 103 hectares of forested area as of Friday afternoon.

That is compared to the 10-year average of 174 fires and 341 hectares burned.
