Man charged in fatal eastern N.B. crash

Several charges have been laid after a fatal weekend crash in eastern New Brunswick.

RCMP say a car hit a motorcycle on Route 11 near Saint-Louis-de-Kent around 3 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators believe both vehicles were travelling southbound at the time of the crash.

The 36-year-old Riverview man who was driving the motorcycle died at the scene.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with suspected non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP said officers arrested a man from Elsipogtog First Nation later that same day.

A 26-year-old appeared in court on Wednesday and was charged with five offences:

  • failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • accident resulting in death (alcohol)
  • operating a motor vehicle while suspended
  • failure to stop after an accident resulting in death
  • operation while impaired

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
