Premier reassures health care workers, no sudden changes in roles

A continued reiteration from the premier that changes are not coming to healthcare roles.

This is after plans by Horizon Health that would’ve seen positions in public health, mental health and addictions transformed.

Last month, Horizon Health said in a statement that it was in the “early stages of a transformation” aimed at strengthening the way it delivers public health and mental health and addiction

“There was a sense that something was happening, but not a knowledge of the details of what had happened. It was then that we started asking questions, Holt says.

The premier quickly halted those plans, stating that more consultation is needed.

Susan Holt says Horizon Health Network has begun engaging with staff to determine the best approach..

“How can we deliver the best possible public health care for families, for kids, for patients so that they can get in and out in an accessible, easy way and get that proactive preventative care that public health care often delivers.”

Holt adds that the priority is to address demand in public health and increase mental health resources, “Going to start the process of engaging with the folks on the front lines so that we can all participate and get the benefit of their experiences around how we can deliver the best possible healthcare.”

During a public Q and A on social media this week, Holt committed to nurses that they will be involved in the design of these improved public health, mental health and addictions services going forward.
