Uptown Saint John hit by unusual parking meter thefts

A strange string of thefts targeting parking meters has Saint John police asking for the public’s help.

The City of Saint John contacted police after Irving security discovered several old-style parking meters last Monday.

Officers determined that five meters had been removed from three separate locations in uptown Saint John.

A second report came in the following weekend after eight more meters were stolen in the uptown area.

Police said five of the stolen meters have since been recovered.

Investigators say they are working to confirm whether the incidents are connected and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Tips can be directed to the Saint John Police Force at 506-648-3333. Anonymous information can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)
