New affordable housing in St. Stephen set to open this fall

A new modular housing complex in St. Stephen is expected to be welcoming tenants this fall.

The five-unit building, located on Main Street, is nearing completion, expanding access to affordable housing in the region, according to a government release.

“In rural communities, finding access to safe, affordable housing can be very challenging,” said Housing Minister David Hickey.

He added that the province looks forward to opening the new complex and supporting those in need of stable housing.

The development is part of a broader initiative to increase the availability of public housing across New Brunswick.

New Brunswick has nearly 3,900 public housing units, with plans to add more by the end of the year.

Construction is underway on 127 additional units at 13 sites across New Brunswick.

The New Brunswick Housing Corporation also offers programs for renters and property owners as part of the government’s commitment to housing affordability
