Postal workers’ contract talks still on hold

There has been another delay to the start of contract talks between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

The two sides were to meet with federal mediators on Monday, after Canada Post cancelled a session last Friday.

CUPW says mediators stated that the cancellation of Monday’s meeting was intended to give

Canada Post more time to review the union’s latest proposal.

The meeting last Friday was cancelled for the same reason.

There is no date as to when the two sides will meet.

CUPW states that it is expecting to receive more questions from Canada Post about its offers through the mediators.

The union’s latest proposal includes requests for wage increases totalling 19 percent over four years, more corporate vehicles for use by rural and suburban mail carriers, staffing changes that lessen Canada Post’s reliance on temporary workers, and that Canada Post explore the union’s proposals that expand services and grow the business.
