Inclusive golf festival launches for Women and Girls in N.B.

A national initiative aimed at making golf more inclusive for women and girls is teeing off in New Brunswick.

The She Plays Golf festival started on Tuesday and continues through Saturday, featuring a series of public events at Royal Oaks Golf Course and Country Meadows Golf Course in Moncton.

The festival marks the first Atlantic Canadian stop for the initiative, which has previously held events in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.

Its funding helped expand She Plays Golf to the Atlantic region this year, according to RBC.

The initiative is part of RBC’s broader commitment to growing the game through its Community Junior Golf program, which is delivered in partnership with Golf Canada.

One of the featured events is the Junior Girls Tee It Up clinic, taking place on Friday at Country Meadows Golf Club. The session is open to girls aged 8 to 18 with little or no golf experience.

Participants will rotate through putting, chipping and full swing stations, followed by a social meal.

Organizers say the event is designed to be relaxed and beginner-friendly, with participants encouraged to sign up with a friend or sibling.

The She Plays Golf festival includes “try golf” sessions open to the public, with registration available online.

Programming is designed to be inclusive and accessible, offering opportunities for women and girls of all ages and skill levels.

RBC’s Community Junior Golf initiative has helped launch First Tee and Youth on Course programs at 36 sites across Canada, including Country Meadows in Moncton.

Golf Canada says the initiative has engaged more than 55,000 youth since its launch in 2022.

First Tee Canada provides life skills and golf instruction for youth aged 5 to 18, with trained coaches creating a supportive environment.

Youth on Course offers subsidized rounds of golf for $5 or less, aiming to make the sport more affordable for young players
