No Thanksgiving turkeys from Sussex Salvation Army

People in the Sussex area who rely on the Salvation Army’s food bank are going to have to find another source for their Thanksgiving turkey this year.

In a Facebook post Monday, the charitable organization announced it will not be able to provide Thanksgiving hampers this year. The decision was made in response to a 20 per cent increase in food bank use, increased food costs, and declining donations.

“While we know how meaningful seasonal support can be, we must prioritize our resources to ensure our Christmas Hamper Program – the core of our holiday outreach – can meet the growing needs of our community,” the post reads.

The organization’s food bank remains fully operational, and clients will still be able to get produce for their Thanksgiving meals during their regular visit.
