Fall begins Monday afternoon

You may have been enjoying your pumpkin spice for a while, but fall officially starts Monday in the Northern Hemisphere.

The autumnal equinox arrives at 3:19 p.m. Atlantic Time.

According to the National Research Council, autumn starts when the sun is directly over the equator, going from north to south.

September 22nd marks the beginning of spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
