Charges will not be laid against a New Brunswick RCMP officer following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) said the evidence did not meet the legal threshold required to support a criminal charge.
The complaint was made to the RCMP in November 2024 by a woman who alleged she was assaulted in October 2023. Both the woman and the officer gave statements to investigators.
The woman said the sexual activity was not consensual, while the officer said it was. SiRT also interviewed two civilian witnesses and reviewed medical records and digital communications.
The officer voluntarily completed a polygraph test, which the agency says supported his account.
While polygraph results are not admissible in court, SiRT said they were considered as part of the overall evidence.
The agency said both parties were cooperative and credible, but the available information “did not establish reasonable grounds” to believe a criminal offence occurred.
