The City of Saint John says CAO Brent McGovern will step down in the coming months.
McGovern has worked with the city for more than 20 years in leadership roles and became CAO in 2022.
McGovern called the role “one of the most rewarding experiences” of his career.
He said he is proud of the progress made on housing, infrastructure and community growth, and added that he feels confident in the city’s leadership team.
“As I reflect on my time with the city, I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished together,” McGovern said in a release.
He pointed to projects such as the Safe Clean Drinking Water Project, the Housing for All strategy, recreation improvements and work on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Mayor Donna Noade Reardon said McGovern’s leadership helped shape some of the city’s most important initiatives.
“Brent has played a pivotal role in shaping some of the most transformative initiatives in our city’s history,” she said.
“He will be tremendously missed and will leave behind big shoes to fill.”
The city says the Common Council will move ahead with a process to select the next CAO.
