Man facing assault, firearms, drug charges

A 25-year-old man is facing multiple charges in relation to an incident of intimate partner violence.

Saint John Police were called to a residence in the city’s north end at 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 15 after a 26-year-old woman reported she’d been assaulted by her boyfriend.

Police found the man approximately 15 minutes later after they stopped a vehicle on the lower west side.

The suspect was arrested without incident.

During the arrest, police located and seized a loaded Beretta handgun, scales and two baggies containing cocaine.

Police estimate the cocaine has a street value of $13,900.

The suspect appeared in court on Oct. 16 and was remanded into custody.

He’s facing 11 charges under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, including:

  • Assault
  • Assault with choking, suffocation or strangulation
  • Failure to comply with a court order
  • Possession of firearm while prohibited
  • Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a restricted weapon without a licence
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle in which he knew there was a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 30.
