The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity is welcoming a mention of pay transparency in this week’s throne speech.
Anglophone Vice-Chair Johanne Wright says this is an encouraging step towards greater fairness in the workplace.
“Pay transparency doesn’t replace pay equity, it complements it. It reveals the gaps that pay equity can then help close,” Wright added. “Pay transparency can also help uphold pay parity, which has, in theory, been guaranteed under law since the 1960s in New Brunswick.”
The speech stated that the pay transparency legislation will be introduced in 2026 to promote fairness, accountability and equity across all sectors..
The Throne speech was delivered in Fredericton on Tuesday afternoon as the fall session of the legislature got underway.
