Saint John police report that 23 drivers were ticketed and 15 others were warned during a recent campaign targeting aggressive driving.
The enforcement effort took place from October 21 to 24 and focused on behaviours such as speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes, and ignoring traffic signals.
Police said the campaign was carried out by the Quick Reaction Team and Traffic Management Officers, with the goal of improving safety for all road users and reducing the risk of serious injury and fatal collisions.
Targeted traffic enforcement will continue across the city, alongside efforts to educate motorists about traffic laws, according to Saint John police.
Police also reminded drivers that penalties for dangerous driving in New Brunswick can include fines, demerit points, and vehicle impoundments.
For example, speeding 50 to 80 kilometres per hour over the posted limit carries a $500 fine, five demerit points, and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
