ANB To Create Dedicated Non-Emergency Transfer Service

Premier Blaine Higgs announcing changes to help address response times by Ambulance New Brunswick.

The agency will create a dedicated non-emergency transfer service for hospital patients allowing ANB to
maintain its strategic focus where its most needed and to improve emergency response times.

When it comes to the current call volume for Ambulance New Brunswick, transfers account for about 30 per cent of their call volume.

In 2017, there were 112,000 calls for transfers, up 18 per cent from five years ago.

“No longer will desperate families be forced to load severely ill and injured loved ones in the backs of their own vehicles hoping to get to a hospital before it is too late because no ambulance is available when it is needed,” said Austin.

By separating transfers from the 911 emergency response system, it will allow for better coordination and reduce delays in both systems and provide for increased flexibility in hiring and improve ANB’s ability to recruit and retain paramedics.

A government news release also says Ambulance New Brunswick will launch an online accountability website regarding response time performance and vehicle downtime statistics for each month.
