Fire crews busy overnight with a blaze in a vacant three-story building at 131 Victoria Street.
The call came in for crews to respond about 12:15 a.m this morning and when crews arrived they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the building.
Platoon Chief Todd Walsh tells CHSJ News for safety reasons, it was decided that crews would not enter the building so crews put the fire out by using the ladder towers and dumping water on the roof. Walsh says this building was due to be demolished.
A fire in a vacant building at 131 Victoria Street is considered suspicious.
The call came in after midnight this morning. It was scheduled to be demolished this week but fire officials say it will likely come down today. pic.twitter.com/WE20nPMemJ— Tamara Steele (@tamarasteele1) December 17, 2018
“The information from the engineering department is that council approved the demolition of this building on Friday and it was scheduled to come down this week.” Walsh said.
That process has been escalated because of the fire and it will likely be demolished today.
The cause of the blaze is suspicious.
