UPDATED: Police Deem South End Fire An Arson

Saint John police are treating a fire in a vacant south end building as an arson.

Police and firefighters were called to 82 St. James Street around 8:40 p.m. Sunday.

The first crews on scene found smoke coming from the two-storey wooden structure.

Firefighters contained the flames to one room but there was moderate smoke and water damage throughout the building.

Police ask anyone with information to contact them at (506) 648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

They also encourage the public to call 911 and report any suspicious activity in the area if they believe a crime is in progress.
