Rain And Snow To Ring In The New Year

Get ready to shovel your walkway when you get home from whooping it up for New Year’s Eve.

Environment Canada says a weather system from the Great Lakes will arrive Monday evening, first as rain, then quickly changing to snow.

Meteorologist Jill Maepea tells our newsroom there are some varying amounts of snow on the way.

“15 to 20 centimetres in the Fredericton area and 10 to 15 cm for the Saint John area,” says Maepea.

The temperature, however, will climb on New Year’s Day and that means another change in the weather.

“We are expecting the snow to change over to rain New Year’s morning and the system will move pretty quickly and the showers and rain will end by that afternoon and then the temperatures will fall again” stated Maepea.

As for January 2nd, it appears it will be a beautiful sunny day with a high around minus 9.
