UDPATE: Acadia Looks To Buy N.S. Radio Station

Acadia Broadcasting, the parent company of this radio station, is looking to expand.

Acadia is seeking CRTC approval to acquire 101.5 The Hawk, a radio station operating in Port Hawkesbury, N.S., from MacEachern Broadcasting.

Chris Pearson, president of Acadia, said The Hawk shares similar values as their other stations.

“They live, work, and play in the communities that we operate in, very connected to the communities, a lot of them volunteers and not just well-known because they’re on air … but also because of their involvement outside of their jobs,” Pearson said.

Pearson said there are 10 full-time employees at The Hawk and they have a newsroom just like all of Acadia’s stations.

Reporting local news is an important part of Acadia’s mandate, he said.

Acadia currently owns and operates four stations in New Brunswick, three in Nova Scotia, and seven in northwestern Ontario.

The purchase is still awaiting approval from the CRTC.
