Man Charged Following Moncton Standoff

A 23-year-old man is facing charges following a standoff in Moncton which lasted more than eight hours.

Mounties were called to an Alma Street apartment shortly before 2:30 p.m. Friday for a report of an assault with a weapon.

They say a woman in her 20s suffered minor injuries during the alleged incident.

Police say a man barricaded himself inside an apartment when they arrived, so they set up a perimeter as a precaution.

Officers were able to enter the apartment shortly before 11 p.m. Friday and the man was taken into custody.

Jothan Snook of Moncton is facing six charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of a firearm while prohibited, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm, failing to comply with a judge’s undertaking and failing to comply with a probation order.

Snook was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Moncton provincial court on Tuesday afternoon.
