Pearl Marie McGrath

December 31, 1951 ~ December 11, 2025 (age 73)

It is with great sadness that the family of Pearl Marie McGrath announces her passing on Thursday, December 11, 2025, surrounded by those she loved at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on December 31, 1951, Pearl was the daughter of the late Charlotte Taylor.

Pearl leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, Brian; her children David (Deane) McGrath, Trevor (Tracie) McGrath, and Tara (Brent) Henderson; her sister Janette (Murray) Scott; her grandchildren Josh McGrath, Jessica McGrath, Hunter Henderson, and Kayla Schmidt; and her great-grandchildren Eli and Xavier McGrath, and Amber and Milah Wilson and several nieces and nephews.

Pearl was equal parts soft and spicy. She didn’t take nonsense from anyone and met life head-on with resilience, humour, and plenty of sarcasm. Yet beneath that strength was a tender heart, she was always cheering for the underdog.

As a military wife, Pearl had the opportunity to travel to many places and Germany held an extra special place in her heart. She often said she had never tasted food as good as it was in Germany and she loved sharing memories from her time there.

Pearl enjoyed bingo and treasured that time spent with her sister Janette. In earlier years she loved clogging alongside her daughter Tara with the Loyalist City Cloggers.

She had a soft spot for animals, especially monkeys and if given the chance she would have had one for a pet. Above all else, Pearl adored her grandchildren and was incredibly proud of each of them.

Pearl devoted her life to caring for her husband, a role she carried with remarkable strength and faithfulness after an accident that required lifelong care.

In addition to her mother, Pearl was predeceased by her sister, Nora Taylor and beloved grandfather, Raynes Taylor.

Pearl’s legacy lives on in the stories she told, the love she shared, and the strength she showed every day. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sanford, along with the nurses and physiotherapy staff on 3D South, for the care and compassion shown to Pearl.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). Visitation will take place Tuesday, December 16, from 12-2 p.m., with a funeral service to follow, at 2:00 p.m. in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Those wishing to honour Pearl’s memory may do so through a donation to the charity of their choice.
