That’s a BIG BABY!

  • Texas mom Markie Smith gave birth to a baby boy who was bigger than most.
  • The child was born weighing 12 pounds, 10 1/2 ounces.
  • The baby got a name to match his size. Say hello to Canyon!   
  • Smith had gestational diabetes with all three pregnancies, leading to larger babies, but Canyon’s size exceeded expectations.
  • Canyon’s name was chosen early on and turned out to be fitting, with family and friends giving him nicknames like “the Grand Canyon.” 
  • Canyon’s name fits the nature-inspired theme of his siblings’ names, Meadow and Forest.

  • Mark Downey started in radio broadcasting in 2001 when NB Broadcasting, now Acadia Broadcasting launched a Country Radio station in his hometown of St. Stephen. He's the morning show host of 98.1 Charlotte FM and the mid-day host on Country 94. On Sunday evenings, Mark also hosts the classic country show, The Weekend Jamboree. He owns his own mobile Wedding DJ Business performing at hundreds of weddings over the years. Mark was inducted into the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2025.
