With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Louise DeCourcey. Born on April 14, 1963, and passed peacefully on January 1, 2026, Shirley lived her life with a gentle, childlike spirit and a heart full of simple, honest joy. She was a sweet and kind soul whose presence brought comfort, softness, and light to the world around her.
Shirley found happiness in the little things that mattered most to her. She loved her colouring books and bright colours, finding peace and delight in moments of creativity. She had a deep affection for children and animals, drawn naturally to their innocence and unconditional love. Her beloved cat, Jill, held a special place in her heart and was a constant source of companionship and comfort.
Those who knew Shirley remember her as incredibly giving and selfless, always ready to share what she had, no matter how small. She loved simply and fully, with no expectations in return. Her great big smile was one of her most beautiful gifts, genuine, warm, and capable of brightening even the quietest room. Shirley had a way of making others feel at ease, seen, and cared for just by being herself.
Shirley is survived by her dear friend David, who shared her life with steady companionship, deep affection, and heartfelt care. Their bond was built on love, presence, and understanding. Shirley’s gentle nature, loving heart, and pure spirit will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her joy, and the quiet beauty of a life lived with love.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home (506-634-7424), 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, New Brunswick. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Brenan’s Funeral Home. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Sophia Recovery Centre.
