PLEASE NOTE: VISTATION FOR WANITA HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 26, 2026 AND WILL BE MOVED ONE HOUR BEFORE SERVICE AT 12 PM, TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2026

With heavy hearts, the family of Wanita Joan Hosford announce her passing, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at The Saint John Regional Hospital. Born December 3, 1933, in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Black and Greta (nee Fillmore) Black.

Wanita retired from the Royal Bank back in the 90’s. Since then, she was always busy with her duties as President of the First Lutheran Church Committee, the Royal Canadian Legion or The Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary where she held several positions such as 1st Vice, President, Past President, Deputy Zone Commander and Zone Commander.

Wanita is survived by her Son Robert Cobbett (Wanda), Stepchildren; Reg Cawston (Roxanne), Jessica Mori (Denise), Donald Cawston (Joyce). 16 Grand Children and 2 Great Grand Children. As well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wanita was predeceased by her parents; Cecil Black and Greta (nee Fillmore) Black, one brother Sonny Stewart, sisters; Doreen Davidson and Rose Marie Beaton. As well as her daughter Brenda Joanne Cobbett.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint

John, NB (506-634-7424), A visitation in memory of Wanita will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. A Funeral service will take place the following day, January 27, 2026, at 1:00 PM in Brenan’s Funeral Chapel.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Wanita may be made to Children’s War Amps.
