February 20, 1937 – January 31, 2026
With heavy hearts, the family of Don Ouellette, husband of the late Yvonne (Roy), announces his passing which occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born February 20, 1937, in Drummond, NB, he was a son of the late Rose (Côté) and Leo Ouellette.
A very proud father and humble family man who dedicated his life in providing the very best to his children and family, he was a man who valued family and was very close to his siblings with many visits and vacations to Baie Comeau and around New Brunswick.
From humble beginnings as a farmer on the family farm, he got his diploma as a barber in his early 20’s, leading to a barber position on the Limestone Airforce Base in Maine. In 1970 he moved the family to Saint John to join his brother’s hairstyle business where he eventually became a partner/owner in Gill’s Hairstyling.
Although working full time, he was never satisfied with status quo. He felt compelled to do side hustles and eventually invested in many different income properties, all in the pursuit of financial independence and providing for his family.
Although a very hard worker and working countless hours he never lost sight of family values and
pleasures in life for himself and family. He loved toiling in the garden and flower beds and how he loved fishing trips every time we went to Baie Comeau. The memories he provided his kids with the many weekend camping trips locally, knowing in hindsight this was important and special to him and his kids. Eventually camping was replaced with a cottage on a lake where friends and family gathered every weekend- sharing, laughing, experiencing, interacting life’s experiences.
Upon retirement he made a decision to unwind and enjoy the life of a snowbird in Fort Lauderdale at
Twin Lakes. For nearly 15+ years he enjoyed the lifestyle, eyes would light up in anticipation of leaving and recounting the memories and fun times he had upon his return and then doing it all over again the next year.
He always felt he deprived his family with hard work. What he really did is teach life values, how to be humble and how special family is. You will be missed not only for who you were but also how you taught us in your own special way.
