Winter storm warning issued for Saint John and county

If you have travel plans between Monday and Tuesday, they could be delayed or cancelled due to the weather.

Environment Canada has now issued a winter storm warning for Saint John and county.

An intense low pressure system tracking across Nova Scotia Monday night is expected to bring hazardous conditions, with between 15 and 25 centimetres of snow.

The worst conditions are currently expected to be along the Fundy coast.

Northeasterly wind gusts of between 70 km/h and 90 km/h could reduce visibility due to blowing snow.

Environment Canada is recommending non-essential travel and outdoor activities be postponed until conditions improve.

Special weather statements are in effect for the rest of New Brunswick with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow expected there as well, with wind gusts of between 60 and 80 km/h. Those could be upgraded by Environment Canada if required.

Higher than normal water levels are also expected along eastern facing coastlines of the Northumberland Strait on Tuesday.
