Prime Minister Carney announced the largest amount of money to be spent on Defence since the Second World War.180 billion directly and 290 billion in spin offs which in total will create 125,000 jobs.
Over the past 30 years Saint John has lost 6 federal departments plus our federally funded frigate programs, these were all moved to other Atlantic Canadian Cities.
Saint John has two Members of Parliament, one is with the Federal Government and a Cabinet Minister Wayne Long.Wayne is a very hard working MP,the other is with the opposition John Williamson.
The loss of these 6 federal departments hurt but the loss of the dry dock set Saint John back and we have never recovered from. This happened before these two great MPs were elected.
Our dry dock once was the largest in the world and is still the largest in Canada.
Wouldn’t it be such a great boost to our economy if we were to get work at our dry dock once again. Moncton, Fredericton and Halifax have picked up thousands of high paying federal jobs at the same time Saint John lost thousands- this is a golden opportunity for Saint John.
The Fredericton area just received one billion dollars for Base Gagetown which has 6,500 federally employed soldiers and staff.
Defence spending is going to be involved in most sectors of our economy now due to the changing nature of the World Rules Based Culture that has been in place for decades.
Saint John has some great opportunities to grow and greatly improve our status once again and catch up to our fellow Atlantic Cities. We can make Saint John Better!
