Robert Gary Faloon

March 17, 1951  –  March 24, 2026

It is with deep sadness, the family and friends mark the passing of R. Gary Faloon, KC; a remarkable man, a gifted lawyer and a loyal friend. Gary was born in Saint John and was the son of the late Harold and Marie Faloon. He was also predeceased by his brother David.

He is survived by his nieces, Kimberley Faloon, and Deborah Faloon; grand niece, Natasha; nephew, Robert (Treena) Faloon and Gary’s cherished Labrador, Annalou.

Gary graduated from St. Malachy’s Memorial High School and received his BComm and LLB from Dalhousie University. With his sharp mind and professionalism, he established a distinguished legal career as a partner with the firms of Marquis and Faloon, Cox Palmer and Gilbert McGloan Gillis. He was named a Queen’s Council in 2000 and was recognized as a leading practitioner by the publication Best Lawyers in Canada in 2010. The same dedication and sense of responsibility that defined his legal career were reflected in his extensive community involvement. Over the years he served as Chair of the Board of the New Brunswick Museum, Key Industries, Saint John Regional Hospital, and the New Brunswick Hospital Association. He also served as President of the Carleton Curling Club and an Honorary President of the New Brunswick Historical Society. He contributed as a member of the board of directors of the Saint John Community Foundation, the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, and Mindcare, and was a past member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Atlantic Labrador Retriever Club, Martinon Yacht Club, and a long time member of the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club, where he combined his love of sailing with enduring friendships on the water. He was also Past President of the St. Patrick’s Society of Saint John, where he celebrated many of his birthdays surrounded by friends at the Society’s annual March 17 dinner – a tradition he greatly cherished. As well Gary was past chairman of the Loyalist Day’s festival.

He lived life with curiosity and passion, had a wonderful sense of humour and was a natural storyteller. His generosity with friends was quiet but profound – always thoughtful, always sincere. A man of many interests, he pursued each with enthusiasm and excellence – whether that was competitive racing out of the RKYC on Windancer, cruising the river and coast with friends, collecting fine furniture or roasting the perfect prime rib while enjoying some fine wine or a glass of scotch with friends at his cottage at Tenant’s Cove. But his biggest passion and joy was breeding Labradors. Gary adored his dogs. When he chose the CKC kennel name he chose Driftwood for his breeding program, it reflected both his love of the water and the steady enduring nature of his devotion. Every puppy from his pairings proudly carried the Driftwood name. Gary watched his dogs compete in conformation, some earning the highest honours in the ring. The first Grand Champion Excellent Labrador was awarded to Driftwood’s Wilson, who was owned and deeply loved by the Paterson family. Wilson’s younger sister, Annalou – who was Gary’s closest companion – has an extraordinary list of achievements, including becoming the first Labrador in history to earn her Grand Championship, Companion Dog Excellence in obedience, Rally Master title and Draft Dog Excellent. Annalou was trained and handled by her best friend Wendy Bennett. While many of Gary’s dogs were successful in the show ring and very proficient in the field, they were also wonderful, steady and much loved family companions. But above all else, what mattered most to Gary was simply being with his girls – going on walks at the Irving Nature Park or along the westside beaches.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). A private internment will take place at Cedar Hill – Greenwood Cemetery. A Celebration of Life, where friends are invited to share stories and laughter will happen at the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club, 1042 Millidge Ave., Saint John on April 25th from 12 to 2 PM. For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donors choice.
