So, there’s lots of places to take up Pickleball around southern N.B and hopefully you’ve had a chance to try it. If you do, please take care, it could get a little wild (well, in Florida anyway.) That’s what happened on the court at a Florida Country club
Authorities say, one player hit his opponent in the face with a paddle, then punched him on the ground, then it got wild. a 63-year-old man was charged with 2-counts of felony battery on a person 65 or older. His wife, who also joined the fight, was charged with a single count of battery on a person 65 or older.
The police report said, 2-married couples were playing against each other when they started arguing about shots being made in “The Kitchen” (That’s a marked area on either side of the net.) Rule is, players can only take a shot in the area once the ball has landed there. Anyway, there was lots of smack-talk, insults, and at the end of the match, one guy insults the other guy’s wife and they start going at it. But It wasn’t just them, at least 20 other players got involved in the brawl. Eventually, Police showed up, broke it up, took the couple that started it, to jail. Those two are now permanently banned from the whole gated-community and the Pickle-Ball courts.
It was a dark day for Pickleball
Take care on the court (and have fun?)
