Contraband seized at Dorchester Penitentiary

Staff at a New Brunswick prison seized a package containing a variety of contraband items recently.

Items including tobacco, shatter and crystal methamphetamine were seized in the minimum-security unit at Dorchester Penitentiary.

According to the Correctional Service of Canada, the estimated institutional value of the items seized is $75,050.

CSC is increasing measures meant to keep contraband out of its institutions to ensure a safe and secure environment.

The agency has also set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions to receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions.

The activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.

The toll-free number, 1-866-780-3784, helps ensure the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous.
