Rennie Douglas Hilyard Matheson

July 29, 1946  –  April 12, 2026

Rennie Douglas Hilyard Matheson passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Rennie was born on July 29, 1946 in Saint John, NB to the late Hilyard and Lillian (Underwood) Matheson.

Rennie will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years Elizabeth Linda Starr O’Keefe (Logan), their children; Douglas Ronald (Carolyn), Donald Murray (Wendy), Clayton Edward (Colleen), and Starr Burnside (David), siblings; Terry (Lynn), Margo and Chris Matheson, grandchildren; Andrea, Cody, Connor, Tristen, Bailey and Jaxson, great grandchildren; Lauren and Claire, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rennie was predeceased by his beloved terrier Bear.

Rennie dedicated 37 years working at the Irving Pulp and Paper Mill, prior to that he worked at CP Rail. Outside of work, Rennie liked to keep busy working on different projects; he loved tinkering in his garage, painting and doing body work on cars, plowing, and ‘rough’ carpentry. Rennie was known to say some of the best days were when he first bought his plow.

He enjoyed having a beer with his friends and playing darts at the Royal Canadian Branch #69 where he was a member for several years. He also loved to spend time on South Oromocto Lake, listening to his favourite country music. Rennie was known to have a great witty sense of humor that was able to make anyone laugh.

Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John, NB E2M 2L3, 506-634-1701. There will be no visitation. A Private Memorial Service will be held for family and friends. Interment will take place in South Oromocto Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Rennie’s memory can be made to Bobby’s Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
