Highway 1 eastbound may open Wednesday

Travelling between Quispamsis and Hampton might get a little easier Wednesday.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 have been closed to all traffic since late afternoon on April 8.

A tanker truck flipped over and spilled an estimated 36,000 litres of fuel around kilometre marker 153, outside Hampton.

But Natural Resources Minister and Hampton-area MLA John Herron visited the site Monday and said crews hope to have one lane open by Wednesday afternoon.

Cleanup and remediation of the site have been ongoing for several days.

Eastbound traffic has been rerouted to Highway 100 through Hammond River and Nauwigewauk since the accident.
