Andrew Bell

January 26, 1963 ~ April 11, 2026 (age 63)

The family of Andrew “Andy” Bell are saddened to announce his passing which occurred on April 11th at his home in Saint John, NB.

Andy’s life began in Ottawa, Ontario in 1963 and he was one of four children born to the late Tom and Patricia (Blayney) Bell. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his eldest brother Mike in 2020, as well as several aunts and uncles.  Andy is survived by his elder brother Jim, as well as his younger sister Melanie (John) Bell Hughes, Aunt Lynn Bell and several cousins.

In 1974 Andy’s parents moved the family from Ottawa to his father’s hometown of Saint John, NB where Andy would spend his educational and professional life. He was very proud to be a member of the Saint John High School Alumni. He was also proud of the contribution he made to the UNBSJ Student Council where he obtained his BBA. Andy cherished his time working as a realtor as well as the several years spent working at Xerox where his disability eventually forced him into retirement. Saint John High, UNBSJ, Realty World and Xerox; it was here that Andy made solid, lifelong friendships. He was fiercely loyal, intelligent, and a person of integrity who had little tolerance for dishonest behavior.

During the years when he was able, he enjoyed trips to Florida as well as a trip to Montreal to attend a Formula One race. He was passionate in his knowledge of classic cars and could tell you in fine detail about every car in Jay Leno’s collection. Nobody could beat Andy at Trivial Pursuit. Nobody. He effortlessly solved the Rubik’s Cube and always kept one nearby for bragging rights. Andy adored food, but a food snob he was not. His love for fast food cheeseburgers or better yet, a hot dog from Costco washed down with a can of Moosehead Light was the ultimate as far as he was concerned. For many years, Andy enjoyed living in his apartment in the “Uptown” where he could scoot over to the City Market or attend a show at The Imperial Theatre. As his need for assisted care increased, it became necessary for Andy to give up his apartment, so he chose to move to Shannex in Millidgeville where he resided until his passing. Andy passed away peacefully in his room with Frank Sinatra playing in the background, his Rubik’s Cube nearby.

The family is grateful to the staff at Shannex for the care Andy received during his stay. As well, our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Hari Ondiveeran and his assistant Shelley for being so wonderful and supportive. The family would also like to acknowledge Andy’s dear friend Jennifer Brown for the care and companionship that she provided over the years. It has always been appreciated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday May 3rd at Trinity Church at 1:30pm. A reception will follow in The Bennett Room.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Muscular Dystrophy Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice.
