There are many charities in Saint John and the surrounding area. You’ve probably heard some of their names, but may not know exactly what they do. Each week, we’ll highlight a different organization, sharing who they are and the work they do. We’ll also let you know about any upcoming events where you can learn more or get involved.
This week’s Charity of the Week is the John Howard Society of New Brunswick Fundy Region Inc. (Saint John).
The John Howard Society of Saint John (NB Fundy Region) is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to creating safe communities by supporting individuals and families affected by the criminal justice system or at risk of coming into conflict with the law. It provides intervention, advocacy, and public education services for over 75 years next year.
Key Services & Usage Examples:
- Housing & Shelter Support: Operates residential facilities like the Adelaide Street Home, Grant Home, and Peters Street Transitional Apartments.
- Case Management: Offers tailored support for individuals facing complex needs, such as addiction or mental health challenges.
- Employment & Education: Provides skills development, employment services, and community adult learning programs.
- Justice Programs: Focuses on prevention and intervention, including assistance for individuals transitioning back into the community from correctional facilities.
The Society operates as a leader in anti-poverty work and supports individuals facing multiple barriers to improve their quality of life.
Get Involved
The Society engages the services of volunteers throughout the agency, from the governance level to direct assistance of clients and their families.
The John Howard Society of Saint John encourages and welcomes donations to support our work in helping to create safer, healthier communities. Donations may be given for general use or targeted to specific programs or services.
