Charitable Organization of the Week: Ability New Brunswick

There are many charities in Saint John and the surrounding area. You’ve probably heard some of their names, but may not know exactly what they do. Each week, we’ll highlight a different organization, sharing who they are and the work they do. We’ll also let you know about any upcoming events where you can learn more or get involved.

This week’s Charity of the Week is the Ability New Brunswick.

Ability New Brunswick: Supporting Independence in Saint John and Beyond

For 70 years, Ability New Brunswick (Ability NB) has been helping individuals living with a mobility disability build independence, overcome barriers, and fully participate in their communities, including right here in the Saint John region.

Founded in 1956, Ability NB’s mission is to empower the independence and full community participation of persons throughout New Brunswick who have a mobility disability.

Why It Matters in Saint John

In the Saint John region, Ability NB supports individuals and families through personalized, one-on-one services—helping people navigate complex systems, access supports, and achieve their goals.

Throughout the province, over 94,000 New Brunswickers live with a mobility disability, highlighting the growing need for accessible services, inclusive communities, and ongoing support.

What They Do

Ability NB delivers practical, life-changing programs, including:

  • Rehabilitation Counselling & Seniors Navigation – helping individuals access housing, supports, and services
  • Transition NB – supporting youth as they move into adulthood, education, and employment
  • Para NB – Sport & Recreation – creating inclusive opportunities so that everyone plays
  • Accessible NB – working with employers to improve accessibility in workplaces and community spaces
  • Peer Mentorship – connecting individuals with lived experience for support and guidance

Their approach is simple but powerful: meet people where they are and build a plan based on what matters most to them.

70 Years of Impact

As Ability NB celebrates its 70th anniversary, the organization continues to grow its reach and impact—helping hundreds of New Brunswickers each year improve their quality of life and independence.

  • Krista has worked for Country 94 since Jan 2015 and is currently your host for the LIVE ON THE DRIVE with Krista, Monday through Friday 3-6 pm. What does Krista love about country music? EVERYTHING! She loves interviewing artists like Dean Brody, Tim Hicks, Lindsay Ell, going to concerts and dancing in the control booth on King St.

If you ask Krista her ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE thing, though, about country radio, the answer is the connection with you, the listener. The friendships made over the years with our listeners is second to none.
