Residents allowed extra garbage bags for spring collection

Spring cleaning season is here, and the City of Saint John is making it easier for residents to tackle seasonal cleanups. To help with the extra cleanup that often comes with spring, solid waste customers are welcome to place two additional bags of garbage curbside at no extra cost during the spring collection period.

Residents who receive weekly garbage pickup may set out their extra bags during the week of May 4. Those on a bi‑weekly pickup schedule can place their additional bags at the curb on their regular collection day between May 4 and May 16. No bag tag is required for these extra bags.

While spring cleaning can lead to more garbage, the City encourages residents to continue making the most of curbside recycling and composting, along with other waste diversion programs available in the community. These options help reduce what goes into the garbage and support a cleaner, more sustainable Saint John. More information on available programs can be found at www.fundyregion.ca/waste-recycling.

Residents are also reminded of the City’s free Bulky Item Pickup program, which collects large household items such as furniture, mattresses, barbecues, carpets, and more. Pre‑registration is required and can be completed by calling Customer Service at 506‑658‑4455, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
