Quispamsis care home getting 60 new beds

A long-term care home in the Kennebecasis Valley is growing.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held April 27 at Shannex’s Parkland in the Valley site, the beginning of an expansion project that will add 60 beds.

Premier Susan Holt said the expansion is a step forward in giving New Brunswick seniors access to proper care in their community, close to family and friends.

“We’re moving quickly to build more nursing homes to reduce the impact on our hospitals and ensure seniors can get the right care,” the premier said in a statement.

The expansion is part of the provincial government’s new seniors care strategy.

The $993-million investment in this year’s budget includes adding 624 long-term care beds across the province.

Part of that commitment includes 240 beds at Shannex-operated facilities.

“We’re grateful to work with provincial partners who share our vision of better living for every person,” said Shannex president Jason Shannon in a statement.

“Our New Brunswick team is deeply committed to quickly bringing more long-term care communities to life so more older New Brunswickers can access quality care and service surrounded by dedicated and experienced team members.”

The Quispamsis expansion is expected to be completed late next year.
