The Jamia Riyadhul Jannah Mosque on Saint John’s west end was broken into on April 29 at 2 a.m., according to the place of worship’s post to social media.
The mosque claims two suspects concealing their identities with masks and hoodies entered the mosque, cut various locks including ones on donation boxes, stole money, and smashed security cameras.
“This is not an isolated case. Our mosque has faced multiple break-ins, along with incidents of graffiti and garbage being thrown onto the property,” the Facebook post wrote. “This ongoing behavior is unacceptable.”
The aftermath was discovered by a congregation member arriving for prayer and now a police investigation is underway to identify the intruders.
The mosque asks that neighbors and the surrounding community keep an eye out for and report any suspicious activity.
“Together, we must stand against such actions and protect spaces that are meant for unity, compassion, and service,” the post concluded.
