Horizon Health: Meet Janice, Jacqueline and the DEI Team

In 2023, Horizon introduced its dedicated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) team. Since then, staff across the organization have been increasingly exposed to new initiatives, learning opportunities, and inclusive practices. For leaders Janice and Jacqueline, it sparked a question: how can we do more?

Janice, Nurse Manager of the Saint John Regional Hospital Emergency Department, and Jacqueline, Clinical Director, Emergency Program, lead a hardworking, dedicated team in a fast-paced environment. Inspired by the impact of the work our DEI team was doing, they recognized an opportunity to bring those ideas into their own department.

“Creating a more inclusive workplace doesn’t just recognize diversity in our communities; it educates our staff and exposes them to so many wonderful cultures, practices, and ways of life,” says Janice. “Celebrating lifestyles different from our own helps us become a safe space and gain a better appreciation for others.”

From recognizing and celebrating holidays like Diwali and the Chinese New Year, to creating safe space for learning and connection, these efforts are helping foster a more inclusive environment for staff and patients alike.

This is the impact of DEI in action, and where organizational support empowers our leaders.

Join us in celebrating Janice, Jacqueline, and their team for their ongoing commitment to inclusion, and our DEI team who continue to inspire and support this work across Horizon.
