A Moncton man whose crimes shocked the city back in 2010 is out of prison.
Multiple media reports state that Romeo Cormier is out on statutory release, but under numerous conditions according to the Parole Board of Canada.
Those conditions include that he must live in a community residential facility or a psychiatric facility, and he must return there every night.
He must also report any sexual or non-sexual relationships with women to his parole supervisor, and he can’t consume or possess drugs or alcohol. Cormier must also follow a treatment program for violence and sexual offending.
Cormier, who is now 78 years old, was convicted in 2011 of charges including kidnapping, confinement, sexual assault and assault with a knife.
He grabbed a woman while she was leaving work at Highfield Square Mall and held her captive for almost a full month, in the basement apartment of a rooming house.
She managed to escape and waved down a delivery driver who took her to the police station.
Her name is under a publication ban.
