A 38-year-old Westmorland man has plead guilty in connection with a copper wire theft in Springdale, New Brunswick.
Sussex RCMP say they were called to a commercial property on Route 114 around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, but the suspect had already left the scene.
Officers located him a short time later at a home on Knightville Road in Mount Pisgah, where he was arrested without incident.
“Copper wire theft goes beyond property crime,” says Sergeant Ben Comley of the Sussex RCMP. “It endangers the community, disrupts critical infrastructure, and poses serious risks to those involved.”
According to police, the suspect was also wanted on three outstanding warrants, and his vehicle was seized as part of the investigation.
The man appeared in Saint John Provincial Court on Wednesday, admitting guilt for mischief under $5,000 and trafficking of property obtained by crime. He was released from custody, with sentencing scheduled for July 22, 2026.
