Saint John’s new council gets to work

The mayor of Saint John is ready to get to work.

Saint John common council was sworn in Monday and Donna Noade Reardon described the new council as a strong team.

“What I like about this team and what I like about everybody when they were running for these offices was that there’s no one here that wants to tear apart what we’ve done,” she said.

“They want to continue to build on what we’ve done, and that’s really the secret of moving forward for anyone.”

Reardon said previous councils she’s been a part of have done the same, building on what the council that came before accomplished.

Quoting Charles Darwin, Reardon it’s not the strongest nor most intelligent of a species that survives.

“It’s the one that is most adaptable to change,” she said. “And that’s what you have here, is a team of change-makers.”

Ward 3 Coun. Eric Savoie had similar thoughts to the mayor.

“We’re not starting from scratch,” he said. “We’re building on work, care and commitment of those who helped moves this city forward, and I’m grateful for that foundation.”
