This week marks the first ever National Impaired Driving Prevention Week in Canada.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says in a statement that we must do better because four Canadians die every day in a collision involving alcohol or drugs.
Goodale says they’re working with the RCMP to support road safety efforts related to impaired driving by alcohol, drug, fatigue and distraction.
They’re also working with provincial and territorial partners, along with road safety advocates to help raise awareness about impaired driving dangers.

Last April, the federal government proposed legislation to strengthen impaired driving laws and allow police to better deter and detect drug-impaired driving.
And in November, the government launched a drug-impaired driving public awareness campaign to communicate the risks associated with driving high.
National Impaired Driving Prevention Week takes place during the third week of March.
