Saint John Fire crews were called to a fire at 1712 Westfield Road Sunday afternoon.
A passerby alerted them to the fire and he had kicked in the door to search for occupants, but no one was home.
Crews arrived and found a small fire at the front of the building and tackled the blaze.
Four cats were rescued and taken to neighbours houses.
The fire is believed to be accidental in nature.
