A longtime fixture in the Saint John City Market is rather quiet today.
Jeremiah’s Deli is closed after the Department of Health revoked its licence.
A sign posted outside the deli says after 37 years in business, the medical officer of health has “lost confidence that we are able to handle and prepare food safely,” adding they are working to resolve the issue.
We reached out to Jeremiah’s president Graham Stilwell, who declined to comment at this time.
“At this time I think it’s in my best interest to wait until my licence is restored,” Stilwell said in an email.
The latest inspection report says the licence was pulled on Monday but offered no details as to why.
Paul Bradley, a spokesperson for the Department of Health, tell us “critical violations” were found at Jeremiah’s during an inspection and they were given time to make corrections.
“However, upon re-inspection, those corrections had not been made therefore the licence was revoked,” says Bradley in an email.
Bradley did not elaborate on what the violations were, but says a licence can be issued once all requirements from the department have been met.
