More than 1500 athletes of the senior variety will take over the region this summer when the Canada 55 + games come to Saint John and Quispamsis this August.
It’s only the second time the event has been held in New Brunswick and the concept started with a Saint Johner.
Marketing Chair Bernadette Fernandes tells CHSJ News they call them events rather than sports because they also include games.
“Things like bridge and hockey so there’s a diversity. There are 24 activities across 25 venues between Saint John and Quispamsis” Fernandes says.
Other events include running, golf, tennis, swimming, bocce and cribbage.
Organizers have launched the Subway Volunteer Drive to recruit more than 600 volunteers.
In addition to the competition, the Games, which are held every two years include opening & closing ceremonies and entertainment at night.
