Several Capital Projects Under Budget In 2017

Good news for the city of Saint John as several capital projects came in under budget last year.

Figures presented to the finance committee show expenses were an estimated $2.8 million under budget.

Committee chair David Merrithew says that’s good news since the city doesn’t borrow money for capital projects until they actually spend it.

“It doesn’t mean that some of that money won’t be used next year,” says Merrithew, “so if a project was delayed [or] we’ve added on to the project.”

Work on McLennan Street and Pokiok Road, which is now finished, came in about $380,000 under budget.

But the Morna Heights wastewater treatment facility project is about $400,000 over budget at this point.
