Province Investing In Deer Island Frozen Lobster Production Line

Deer Island was dealt a devasting blow around a month and a half ago with the lobster processing plant burning down but there’s some good news for workers.

The province says it’s putting in $36,000 to help the company, Paturel International, establish a frozen lobster production line at the facility.

It’s expected this frozen line will start in the next few weeks. The province says this will allow the company to re-establish value-added production and create work for another 26 employees. The company currently employs 36 people on its live production line.

The fire broke out in the early morning hours of March 1 and the plant was totally destroyed.
