800 Homes In Westfield Road Area Could Soon Be Isolated

As many as 800 households in the Westfield Road area of Saint John could be isolated by the end of the day Saturday.

Saint John EMO says a large portion of the road, between Gault Road and Mellinger Crescent, may have to close.

Traffic won’t be allowed to enter or leave the area once that happens so residents are being urged to get out while they still can.

NB Southern Railroad is once again offering a free one-way evacuation train to Westfield Road area residents starting at 5 p.m.

Train pick up points are railway crossings at Ketepec Road, Acamac Backland Road, Grenville Lane and Galbraith Property (1109 Westfield Road).

The shuttle will depart east towards the city centre and passengers will be shuttled to the Canadian Red Cross reception centre at the Carleton Community Centre, 82 Market Place West, and arrive around 6:30 p.m.

Residents should make their own accommodations with family or friends, but those who can’t will be provided with accommodations through the Red Cross.

If you need help getting to a pick-up location, you’re asked to call 648-3333.

You can bring up to two bags and should prepare to be away from your home for at least seven days.

Residents who do decide to evacuate, no matter where they’re staying, are asked to register with the Red Cross by calling 1-800-863-6582.
